We, now in 2020, need to back up and do some gathering of facts. Then grow through some form of Truth and Conciliation. Buck up Cowboy and take some responsibility. Instead of rushing headlong into consequences no person, black or white wants. Thank you for taking the time to explain this. As a black woman, I know I have some very good friends that are very southern and very anti-racist. That about nails it. It is perfect portrayal. I love my home state of Georgia warts and halos. I can be liberal, a BLM supporter, and take pride in the diversity of the south while acknowledging the racism. I live in New England now. I actually miss being able to openly acknowledge seeing racism without hearing the defensiveness and arrogance that accompanies any such discussion in New England. Willing to switch homes with you–my house in Georgia for yours in New England—when they allow Georgians into New England again–which may be never, the way the Goobernor is mishandling the virus here.

I think it’s more than that. I haven’t started the video yet so maybe he covers this point, in which case I apologise, but I think it also has to do with being proud of the good people around you and their achievements. Americans face this dilemma when looking at how our history is inextricably tied to Native American genocide the North IS as guilty in benefitting from and whitewashing slavery (the only thing I learned about Reconstruction in my Pennsylvania Catholic school was “carpet baggers and scalliwags” people in the South really are more polite in casual social encounters 4) the only thing I really can’t reconcile is the heat. My God, the heat.
