Jessie Eva Burklin this is a common practice in all schools. Removing the entire class to keep them safe. As a teacher I disagree with this. I feel the one child needs to be removed. I think I would also feel this way if the child misbehaving was my child. I don’t feel like everyone’s time learning should be disrupted by behavior. I feel like the child causing the disruption should be removed. Brittany Jones Myers taught for 30+years in Ga. this is what it has come to. In my last few years. All students leave room while child has outbursts. Schools have an obligation to keep all of the students safe. We do School Based Mental Health in 10 districts and this is a common practice. Tracey McFadyen Tugwell sorry, I have to disagree. Laying hands on should always be a last resort. For the child as well as anyone trying to move an out of control person it is a huge safety risk. Knee and rotator cuff injuries (and bites, good grief don’t forget bites).
It is terribly disrupting to the rest of the kids but removing the audience is also important in de-escalating the event. Brenda Heath I’ve been a shadow. It was the worst job ever!!! I thought I was going to be working with a special needs student. Turns out I was misled and ended up with multiple horror stories before I finally got back into the ECP department for the job I originally thought I was getting. Leah Heindel Sundheim and that is just wrong. Perhaps his parents need to attend class with him so that they can escort him out when he can’t remain in class. Brenda Heath I cant imagine the pit in her stomach knowing she had that to look forward to everyday. What each student deserves is to feel safe and have an atmosphere conducive to learning.
