I don’t have anyone over for dinner and yes, we go and invite kids to birthday parties that are not white. Do we invite the child that calls the teacher a MF? No. well that’s great! It’s certainly not like that here in Wilmington. How often are you having the people you mentioned who don’t look and live like you over for dinner? Playdates? ****I edited my comment addressing some of the other things…I hit enter before I was finished. I wrote what I am seeing develop in my sons and I can not ignore that they are observing actions and THEY are forming opinions. Are you in a district that is predominantly white? I am not? We are 75% free and reduced lunch and my black friends are removing their children for the same damn reason. Kids who are allowed to be disruptive with little to no consequences. Go ahead and bitch me out, but this is a problem and we are losing teachers. I think these kids need real help and we need more staff and funds to help them, just like we have for Amos. And for the record, his behavior has been terrible this year and at his school, it is not allowed and so we are working on it. This school is very different.
I disagree. It hardly fazes my sons. I’m more concerned that they just accept behavior and unfortunately incorrectly attribute it to race. I hate this and want a school that doesn’t have absolute chaos. I know that classroom behavior affects teaching and learning. When teachers are open and honest about their struggles, I have to support them. I don’t know what else to do- I’ve gone through the proper channels again and again. Also, my own son’s behavior has been bad and at that school I’ve been forced to help or he will have to be removed. Why are the rules different at each school? Not to mention, my son is five and has a disability. I think his school is handling the behavior properly.
