Had this been the case, your brother would still be alive! Too many people who are having a mental health crisis are killed by the police. so when someone breaks into your house and puts a gun to your head you can call th social worker and the case worker to save your ass? don’t be hyperbolic! That’s not what that means! Let me be clear, defunding the police does NOT mean we eliminate the police altogether. It means that we reallocate some of their funding, demilitarize the police, and begin to correctly use community resources to deal with issues other than criminal ones. Look, what we’re doing now is not working. Law enforcement are killing folks in these streets. Also, it’s not fair to the police to expect them to resolve non-criminal issues they are clearly not trained to respond to. The police will be there if someone breaks into your home; but there will be the appropriate community based crisis team to respond to other issues.
