hat brought back amazing memories of visiting Amsterdam… going into bars and coffee shops, wandering and getting lost among the streets and canals and loving every minute of it. And the cheese. My god, the cheese! Among the many other wonderful, world-class museums, we visited the Canal Museum. During the tour, we learned how the city was built. It was fascinating! I come from Dutch ancestry (my grandma is 100% Dutch) and have always wanted to visit. I’ve been to several European countries, but still haven’t visited Amsterdam. Hopefully once countries begin to re-allow Americans to visit I can get something on the calendar! Great story! Thanks Rick! I luv Amsterdam’s coffee shops-well, pretty much everything abt Amsterdam! I like it to be the first and last stop on every European trip. Looking forward to going again when Covid permits. Great piece. As always. Got the book. Love it. And of course Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities. Been 5 times. Never gets old. Cannot WAIT to get the hell out of here and back to Paris though. I miss The Netherlands, I had a 4 day stay that became 10 days in 1995. The whole country stole my heart!
you said it all Rick- the beauty of a society long past empire with a true commitment to tolerance and freedom and well being for all. Many dont know that the pilgrims who settled in Plymouth, had lived and sought refuge in Amsterdam for many years before needing to move on due to changes in the political climate there.
