I disagree. It hardly fazes my sons. I’m more concerned that they just accept behavior and unfortunately incorrectly attribute it to race. I hate this and want a school that doesn’t have absolute chaos. I know that classroom behavior affects teaching and learning. When teachers are open and honest about their struggles, I have to support them. I don’t know what else to do- I’ve gone through the proper channels again and again. Also, my own son’s behavior has been bad and at that school I’ve been forced to help or he will have to be removed. Why are the rules different at each school? Not to mention, my son is five and has a disability. I think his school is handling the behavior properly. But maybe you can just, like, talk to them about it, teach them about the historical implications, etc.? Or, not blog about it? I mean, honestly, no one makes perfect choices. But openly acting like you tried to be anti-racist but then, damn, had to bail, feels really bad and I’m white.

I completely understand the struggle. The conversation at our house with the middle school child are tough to navigate. Kids having sex in the girls bathroom is the latest topic. Teachers making other teacher cry in front of students. I have had about my fill and it is only Oct. I learned with my boys that you deal with each one as a problem arises. Different children might thrive in different situations. It’s never a “one size fits all”. I had one or more in public, while others did better in a private setting. Go with your heart…and your decision will be the right one.
