One of the zithers was made in our hometown of Washington, MO. I found it on eBay! I thought they mimicked the one in the Klimt print. The fiddle was made by my grandfather in the early 1900’s. He was a country barn dance musician. I picked this up near Siena, Italy at a Castle on the way back to Florence. I’ve not opened a scroll that came with it but it’s done by a local artist and makes me smile when I look at it, knowing I was pretty far from my home..2009. My daughter lives a few blocks away from the Belvedere and I visit every time I go to see her. I can enjoy the museum and gardens while she works and I don’t get lost. One of my favorite things to do in Vienna. Klimt’s presence and imprint in the Viennese culture is palpable in the architecture and art of Vienna. I only had 3 days in Vienna. I made sure to check out the Secessionist museum. I love Glimt’s work. It’s such a lovely representation of Vienna.
I went to Vienna decades ago, when I was just out of college, traveling on the trains with backpacks. It was decades ago, but the city resonated. I saw this painting and the Woman in Gold (it was still at the museum). Two paintings that stayed with me. I also love Klimt’s portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (also called The Lady in Gold or The Woman in Gold) and the story of her being stolen and found again. Cool movie about that staring Helen Mirren. I saw this nice repro in a gift shop next to the Vatican. I ALMOST purchased it but, alas, it wasn’t in that vacation budget. no it isn’t. Right outside of the exhibit at the Belvedere museum there is a large reprint specifically for photo purposes. Photos are not allowed in the main gallery.
